Great free wedding photography locations in Auckland

Over the last couple of years, I've very been lucky that many of my wedding shoots have taken me to some stunning locations around Auckland that are completely free of charge. So if your wedding venue isn't so great for photo opportunities, or you just want to stop somewhere to take a few snaps on your way from A to B, here is some inspiration:

Cornwall Park

No matter how often I shoot at Cornwall Park, I'm always amazed at the huge variety in backdrops the park provides. And, it's beautiful at anytime of year.

Maraetai Beach

There is something particularly magical about this place. It has none of the wild ruggedness that I love so much about the west coast, but instead it is beautifully peaceful, and the (usually always) empty Pier provides such a stunning backdrop. Best a couple of hours before sunset.

Auckland Museum

If you are after a more majestic look, Auckland museum is a stunning backdrop. The light coloured stone casts a beautiful flattering light, especially on overcast days. The Museum closes at 5pm, so it tends to get quiet after that, and the closed huge wooden front doors make for another grand background for your photos. The museum is also surrounded by the lovely Auckland Domain, so it's easy enough to pop into the gardens and take photos with a nature feel at the same time too.

Karekare Beach

It's a bit of a trek, but definitely worth the effort! This is one of my favourite spots to photograph ever, the dunes, the mist coming off the waves and hills in the backround, there's something magical and very romantic about this place.

Silo Park

If you are after an urban, industrial look, Silo Park offers lots of variety from bright and colourful to grey and moody.

Musik Point in Howick

Well, if you like big views, it's pretty hard to beat this one!

Narrow Neck Beach, Devonport

This little beach doesn't look like much from the roadside, but walk along behind the cliffs for a bit and you are rewarded with romantic little outcrops, interesting rock formations and old Pohutekawas. It's best at low tide!
